Favorite songs: Somewhere Over the Rainbow

I think everyone knows this song. We used to sing it when I was a kid, and I still do now. In fact, when I was in elementary school, three other girls and I had the privilege of singing this song for our school music show. And we were pretty good for four little girls!

This song was voted the 20th century "Song of the Century"
and here are a couple of our favorite versions of it:

New Sarah's World book coming soon!

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming release of our new kids book, Sarah’s World: The summer to remember. It is a compilation of our three previous Sarah books (Sarah and Pcee, Sarah looks out the window, and The Nickname) along with the addition of two new stories and an introductory prelude.

The introduction takes us to school with Sarah, and there’s just a couple of days left before summer begins. This brief view at school gives us an idea of the kind of student Sarah is and shows her excitement for the summer to follow.

In the introduction, we also see Sarah’s pleasant family life. This first look at her family shows how encouraging, supportive and loving her parents are, and sets the tone for the stories in Sarah’s World. There is real fun to be had by young ones as they are given the freedom to explore and do things under the watch-care of loving parents.

We’ll keep you informed as to when it is available on Amazon Kindle.

Favorite songs: Unexpected

Anna Graceman is a young girl not quite in her teens. She writes her own music and lyrics and performs them with the power of Adele. In fact, Anna’s talent is so far above anyone in her age bracket that she can only be compared to someone like Adele, or Jewel. Comparing the level of Anna Graceman’s performing music and lyrics she has written with someone who is just singing a song written by someone else is like trying to compare a painter who takes a bare canvas and creates a work of art to someone who simply colors between the lines of a paint-by-number picture. There is simply no comparison.

For instance, take her song Unexpected. Her use of contrast in the lyrics is poetic deftness well beyond her years, and the music she wrote to accompany these fascinating lyrics matches the wonder evoked by such word imagery.

Consider these lines:
“Like a storm of sunny rain drops, and a world of bitter cotton candy”
“My life is a shallow deep blue sea”
“A triple rainbow of black and white”

“The darkest day and the brightest night”
“I’m at the end but it feels like the start, drowning in the deserts of my tears”

And then there’s this part from the song:
We're living in a world without any peace
When you hear about what goes on around
You wish you could help somehow

It might be said that some of her songs have a certain melancholy tone to them; however, I would point out that young ones like Anna — or anyone else for that matter — who are observers of what is happening in the world, naturally write about these things.

If asked about my favorite song of Anna Graceman, I’d say there are too many of them.
But Unexpected is one of my favorites.

Favorite songs: Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby

My Famous Uncles

Well, maybe not super famous... but sort of. They were well-known back in the 1940s and 50s, as much as many entertainers were back then, at least in the music industry.

Known as Jimmie & Leon, they did lots of “western” singing. In their very early days, they were Smokey and Bashful. They had radio shows, played with Ernest Tubb, and were even in a couple of movies with him. (Hollywood Barn Dance, Jamboree) They also had some groups of their own, such as The Texas Ramblers, but I don’t know who all was in that band with them. Later, together with brothers Buddy & Tommy, they had The Silver Saddle Roundup.

Now, I just have to post this one **YouTube video** of a song my uncles did a long time ago; there are a few of their songs on YouTube.

You have possibly heard this song before because
it’s been done by a few people you might know, such as:

A group called The Beatles...

Well, folks, I know which band I like doing this the best ... what about you?

Here's a question...

We've been getting a lot of people come check out our blog cartoons/stories --
not as many as we'd like, mind you :-)
... but still ...
So I thought to myself, let me ask you: which do you like the most?
Fred & Ted
Tucker & Clank
Dad & Son
-- or, our newest --
Famous Mexican Detective, The Juan

If you haven't had the pleasure of viewing all these, just look to the right side of the blog for the links to all of them, and please go check 'em out.

And maybe, just maybe, you can leave a comment to let us know you did.
For instance, you can say which drawings you like best -- Noe does all the drawings, I get them ready for posting and insert the words Noe writes, or put those funny little font characters and stuff in them.
You could say which one made you laugh the most.
Perhaps let us know the ones you didn't like that much.
Well, sometimes people are just shy about leaving comments...
